Canberra ACT is the capital city of Australia. It has a population of approximately 350,000 and is Australia's largest inland city and the 8th biggest city in Australia. The Centenary of Canberra is next year - 2013.
Canberra ACT was selected as the nation's capital in 1908 as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne. It is a well planned city featuring circles, hexagons and triangles, and is centrally aligned with landmarks in the Australian Capital Territory.
Canberra ACT was designed by Chicago architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, following a compitition to design the city.
Canberra ACT is the seat of the government of Australia and the site of Parliament House, the High Court and many government departments and agencies. It is the location of the Australian War Memorial, National Gallery, Australian Institute of Sport, National Museum, National Library and the Australian National University
